Can i install an E-brake on my go-kart?
I have a fully working go-kart, it has drumbrake(s),i think just 1, i researched online and found out that drum brakes are the easiest to install e-brakes on, i have all the parts nescessary to construct the brake, (handle, cable…..) i just need to know if it’s possible and if so how do i do it. The go kart is a yerf dog #40000 it has a 195cc engine and is left wheel drive and i think the brakes are on the left side. Attach a mounting point for the hand brake within easy reach of either the left hand or the right (which ever you are more proficient at using) and run cable back towards the braking wheel. If you do not have a brake attachment point on the existing assembly, you will need to construct one that will actually engage against the tread of the tire. A simple hinged bracket with a spring to pull it away from the tire when at rest will do. You want something made of either diamond plate, expanded metal or a permanently attached rubber shoe to contact the rear tire.
Attach in such a way that the cable will pull it down onto the tire and the spring will pull it away from the tire. You will need a relatively strong spring but it is doable with minimal effort.
