Briggs and Stratton upgrades?
I just recently bought a brand spankin’ new 9 hp Briggs engine and put it on my 06 Manco go kart. I must say I love the engine, but I was wondering if I could get significently more power out of it?
most people find its not really worth the effort to coax more power out of something like that unless you like tinkering with it any ways. if you have a comet torque convertor you can put a spring kit in it to raise the stall speed. adjust/ bypass your governor to match the new clutch stall speed and open up the exhaust and you can get a bit more power more so if its ohv. any modification comes with risk though of course and the bigger engines don’t take to excessive rpm as well as the smaller ones do. use the best oil you can get 30 weight is what it should use. if your nuts you can use nitrous like i do, works great! though ive blown 3 pistons in my endeavors. if you don’t want to risk it leave it a lone is the golden rule.
