My flash drive is giving me write protection on files and after formating it says I have 3.96 g instead of 1g?
I reformatted and now the computer says that I have a 3.96 gigabite flash drive, not a 1 gigabite and it’s telling me that I have write protection on files, when I try to transfer them back to my flash drive.
It’s a 1 Gig, OCZ Mini-Kart.
the only thing i can tell you is that you may want to try a few things real quick. if you have access to another flash card, see if that one works for you. or, try using the card you are having problems with in another computer to see if it works. the problem could potentially be in the card itself, but it could also be in the card reader, or the software used to access the card.
also, you didn’t really specify what type of card it is. SD cards will usually have a “lock” mechanism on them, similar to how the old cassette tapes had those little plastic squares in the corner that when removed, you couldn’t tape over them… well it’s like that, but on the SD cards, it’s a switch. check to make sure if you have that switch, and try flipping it either way to make sure it works. also, you can do what you may have done with the old cassettes and put a small amount of tape over the switch, which will override the write lock kind of like the tapes. the tape may or may not work though, as the “lock” just activates one of the copper connector pins that control the write protection, and it may not close the circuit quite right.
and lastly, i’m not sure about the brand OCZ. a lot of these flash cards go bad rather quickly, particularly the cheaper brands. if you go here http://aphnetworks.com/reviews/ocz_mini_kart and read a bit into the review this guy wrote up, his only lasted for about a week before it gave him troubles. they weren’t the same issues that you are having, but it could still be due to a defective card. i can’t offer any reason why your card would read as 3 gigs more than what it actually is…
