When you lay in bed at night, can you hear the silence?
When all the lights are off, and there is nothing on in your house like aTV or a radio, and there are no apparent noises from outside (like crickets, etc.), do you hear “something?” If so, to what do you attribute this?
I will answer this from experience.
About 8 years ago I was involved in an explosion leaving me deaf completely deaf for about 3 weeks, Though a very Scary experience it opened my mind to many things.
During the day noise in it’s audible form was replace or filled in by my an interpretation of the visual information received.
But at night in my bed laying in the dark there was pure silence.
I must point out at this juncture that silence, as with darkness and many other words used to describe negation, is not a thing but a lack of a thing.
My hearing has now returned and apart from the ringing in my right ear, which gets worse when I’m tried, I am happy to say that I hear noise when I lie in my bed at night.
The world is full of noise whether we listen to it or not, we (if we are capable) always hear it.
